The only way to understand what the costs and incomes of earlier years mean in today's money is to relate them to the value of money now. This is the same process by which some jobs and prices are indexed to the rise in the cost of living. They call that a "cost of living adjustment." This program uses actual inflation figures to calculate the cost of living adjustment.
