Timetest has a dual purpose. First, it can be used to check whether the current system date seems plausible. It is plausible if the last call of Timetest is not in the future and also not too long in the past. What means too long is adjustable. The default setting is 7 days. On the other hand, on computers without hardware clock, the date can be corrected at least a little bit by setting the system date/time to the date/time of the last call of Timetest.
